A Very Long Hangover

A painful glare reflected
On crushed ice and Austrian crystal
The cold heat of tempered steel
And the dull stare of a dead mouse
Who wears a painted expression
And wires around its crown
The diamond cache secure
But regret travels in one direction
Through a hidden path of cobbles and hedgerows
Awaiting the fortune to be revealed
