A Kiss Goodbye

A final speech she prepared in haste
The years of severance became decades
When she heard the news, she could not wait
To return to his side. To converse, debate
The moments shared
And opportunities lost
Of regret, remorse, reward, and want
Of children abandoned
Of memories lost
Of pain and suffering
Loneliness and costs
Unpaid debts and the wars they fought
She accused. She denied.
She was aware his reply
Would answer her haze
As a strong, silent gaze
Through eyes the shade of a moonless night
His skin a pale, bone-ish white
He seemed to smile
When she kissed him goodbye

Soil

The seeds planted by dirty feet
A soil of dreams and tryptamines
Floating hope and imagining
Bodies piled on the banks of ancient water
Burned in a heap of curiosity
They mourn the ones trapped inside
Then journey away from home
As soil for the soles who guide

She carries a fearless grin

He starts with a shameless smile
She ends his gesture with a friendly salute
Then he continues on his way, unafraid
She carries a fearless grin with the weight of an empty box
Unaware whether the shape is fashionable
He glances and acknowledges without pretense
Without preconception
A world without celebrity
That would be wonderful

On wings and in dreams

Away from the disproving eyes of piety
Unknown to the would be chaperons
They moved together
As others moved apart
On wings and in dreams
Gone is final judgement
And never waning trust
She gazed into his eyes
As if the mountain’s top
Sought her for a home
Then she smiled for the very first time

The old metal rusting

Quietly, it rolls
To the center of a town
The shiny metal glaring
As the servants set it down

The bustle of all traffic
Is brought to a sudden stop
The primal peoples gather
And their savage jaws drop

Kneeling with their offerings
They sacrifice and pray
Begging for forgiveness
Of the crimes that they create

They plea for an end to suffering
While offering pain as bait
Faithful to their ritual
They wait, and they wait, and they wait

Silently, it sits
Idle in the town
The old metal rusting
With no polish to be found

The Choke

Intense desire
A rope, cord, a wire
The end approaching
Coming short, going long
As Lady Death sings his favorite song
He choked himself to sleep
He chased away his dreams
The moment when the noose got tight
Was when he felt the most alive

Shepherd's Pie

Walking on the softest feet
Each step is a price to pay
With saddened eyes and tears, her statue bleeds
As her followers kneel and pray

Sign and fade
They follow the hollow sounds
Shine and blaze
As they open the gate to the graves

Sheering off the softest fleece
This garment is a disguise
Upon this flock, the wolf pack eats
An unholy shepherd’s pie

Jewelry and wine

With dancing lights
The diamond shined twice
She paused for a moment
As time became ice
A proper promise
All by his design
A proposal with presents
Jewelry and wine
Outside it was snowing
Frosting the windows inside
But it was warm under the blankets
The perfect place to hide
As the years became decades
Age was not unkind
First love is a magic
That kept them young all their lives

The lost ones gather

On the ears
Of silent whispering
Flick the tongues
Of fiery blistering
As the tears
For loved ones missing
Contrast the cheer
Of lovers kissing
The lost ones gather
Forming an unseen line
Unknown to history
Hidden from time
