A Red Tide

A reflection in burgundy
Too close for keen sight
As wine and blood mingle
Into the black pool of night
A ripple of waves and glass tulips
A current pulling human fruit
Along the shores of reason
Suffocating the wandering mass
Who join this poisonous pursuit

  1. Wine images are so sensual, they tend to intoxicate through only a few words, but this one is different. The tone is sad and frustrated.
I sense a painful reason for this negative view of wine and inebriation in general.
I hope, someday, you will elaborate on the background for these stories even if they are just fiction. I would like to know what inspired you to write them.

  2. It is an observation of people at a cocktail lounge overlooking the ocean. Many of them are alcoholics. The beach is polluted. The water is infected with a red tide. Both the wine glasses and the water reflect the world around in a shade of burgundy.
