The Dregs

It crawls on one elbow
And the opposite knee
Leaving a trail with a tail
Feeding from the floorboards
Drinking from a puddle
Of its own congealing drool
A scent of new surprises
Make his twitching muscles dance
He struggles through blindness
He prays for a second chance
The creature suddenly rises
Above the source of dregs
One foot across the center
Standing on one leg
Reaching up to heaven
Trying not to beg
