A panther walked on three legs
Bleeding from the fourth
Pierced skin covered in dirt and gravel
Injured too deeply to heal
Unable to reach a safe place
Concealed by rocks, bushes, or trees
The massive feline laid in an open field
Too weak to clean her wound
At first, she growled
Later she moaned
And by the heat of the day
The only sounds that came from her body
Were from a buzzing swarm of flies
