She walked barefoot and naked
On a hot summer road
Her feet blistering on every step
And when she stood still
To catch her breath
The burns penetrated deeply
And because she was naked
She could not properly rest
Either seated or laying down
As she increased the pace
To minimize burning
The bruises darkened
I asked where she was going
And she told me
"The same place we're all going, I suppose."
I asked why she made this journey barefoot and naked
And she told me
"If I was dressed properly, no one would notice how much I suffer"
